Social Studies is a series of projects that began in 2007 and is focused on residencies with artists who consider social interaction a crucial part of their work. The creative process is defined by extensive collaboration among artists, museum staff, volunteers, community members, faculty and students, and can lead to installations, performances, a series of actions in the gallery, or a combination thereof. While every project differs greatly in methodology and outcome, the artists become active members of the local community and as a result, collaborations often continue long after the exhibition has closed.
